The Food Handler Certificate is required of all food handlers who are not already a Food Sanitation Manager. Under the new Illinois Food Handling Enforcement Act all food handlers working in fast food restaurants, full-service restaurants, bars with food, concession stands, nursing homes, licensed day care home or facility, hospital, school, long-term care facility or a retail food store, must receive or obtain American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited training and basic safe food handling principles within 30 days after employment and every 3 years thereafter.
